Our Goal...
Holy Spirit Academy is looking to build the belief in students that they are all capable of success in math. The common phrasing "I am not a math person" does not exist in our school. We are all math people! Numeracy is an integral part of our lives, we use math everyday. We are all mathematicians! Often we don't even realize it because it has become automatic. Having our students engaging in positive mathematical experiences is important. This site is meant to give students a way to practice math to build their confidence. Each grade has compiled a list of websites that contain activities to help solidify students understanding of what they are learning.
“Everyone knows what automaticity is. It is the immediate, obligatory way we apprehend the world around us. It is the fluent, effortless manner in which we perform skilled behaviors. It is the ‘popping into mind’ of familiar knowledge at the moment we need it (Logan, 1991a, p. 347).”
The research...
We want to inspire students to have positive mindsets about their learning in math. Help us do this! The following is a list of links to good reads by Jo Boaler for parents in regards to student's learning of mathematics.
